the walk : a sleeping child
Surround sound composition and sound design for Manchester International Festival’s ‘The Walk : A Sleeping Child’, a prelude to little Amal’s journey across Europe.
The Walk is a travelling festival of art and hope in support of refugees – an epic cultural journey across Europe transcending borders, politics and language. The final day of MIF21 saw the Festival present A Sleeping Child, a beautiful one-off performance directed by Cheryl Martin under the sun at Castlefield Bowl.
Blending theatre, animation and music, A Sleeping Child was the prelude to The Walk – a three-month, 8,000-kilometre journey from the Syria-Turkey border to Manchester. Created by Good Chance (The Jungle) in collaboration with Handspring Puppet Company (War Horse), The Walk begins in July 2021 and ends this autumn here in Manchester. Original eight-channel music and sound design for the animations and performance. The surround sound aspect was specifically created to work on an bespoke large-scale system for the Castlefield bowl (pictured right).
