A 2011 string quartet by Russian-born American Lera Auerbach, inspired by a mythical woman-headed bird, precedes a masterpiece by American minimalist Steve Reich commemorating the trains that took the Jews to Auschwitz. And the Danels’ season concludes with Tchaikovsky’s passionately eloquent Third Quartet.
