JULIET ELLIS: A SYMPHONY OF FLESH AND BONES
Sound designer for 36 speaker ‘in the round’ performance (6th order ambisonics surround sound). Commissioned by Factory International and Perelman Performing Arts Center 2025.
Juliet Ellis envisioned a part audio-visual installation, part meditation, part live performance for the Manchester International Festival 2025. Enveloping the audience through the nature of identity, fragility and the impermanence of human life. Working with Juliet over a four month period in the lead-up to ‘A Symphony of Flesh and Bones’ we designed a sound world and speaker array to encapsulate her vision. Treating all sounds as part of a greater musical composition spanning the 1h30+ of the show, moving between music, morphed dreamscapes, boxing breath-work and reflective meditations.
“I’ve worked with an amazing sound person, Guillaume — omg — a master of binaural sound and surround sound… I just said to him, he’s created sound that you don’t hear but feel. It’s an experience of the whole body. I can’t wait for people to experience that.” - Juliet Ellis interview for Alt Africa
